Hanbok Girls

I've been wanting to draw hanbok (traditional korean clothes) for a while, so...

A quick sketch of some chibi girls in Hanbok.

I'm sorry for the sketchyness, and for the innacuracies I'm sure there must be... it's my first hanbok drawing, and I still know very little about it's history... Althou I'll sure research about it! ;)

I just felt in love with the lovely poofy bell-shaped skirts! <3

And the color combinations are so elegant and gorgeous!

Oiran-san

Finally, done! The colors were so hard! x_x

The winner of the poll about my next kokeshi-style drawing: 

an Oiran, a righ-ranking courtesan of the Edo period (1603-1868). 

She is wearing full costume to an Oiran parade, with 15cm tall geta shoes!

Her garnment is mostly spring-themed. For the patterns, I used several images from beautiful real kimono in a collage (is that right in english? Like, cut-and-glue patterns together...) manner, so they weren't draw by me!

I'm quite proud of this one. She was troublesome, with all her flamboyant look and thousands of kanzashi on her hair, but quite enjoyable to draw. ^^ 

Plus, I love how the obi turned out... <3

Althou the makeup is similar, oiran are not geisha!

JSHE- Sengoku Summer

Following my Japanese Seasons/Historical Eras series...

Sengoku Summer 

This girl from the Sengoku period (middle XV to early XVII centuries) wears formal summer clothes for the samurai class women. In winter, the heavily embroided uchiki was worn as another full layer of clothes, but in the hot summer, it was only tied at the waist, over the kimono. As samurai, she has a tanto (short knife) on her obi, and holds a fan, ready to war!

Deep blue, fresh green, vibrant tones... all Summer colors. The uchiki pattern is not exactly summer-ish, but it's not connected to other specific season either, so... I guess she looks ok. ^^

Edo Spring-kun!

This samurai from the Edo period (1603-1868) wears hakama trousers and a sleeveless jacket with "high" shoulders (kataginu) over his kimono. The pair of swords, katana and wakizashi, is called "daisho" - literally "big and small", and indicates the status of samurai on this time period.

He holds a closed fan, and has a piece of paper on him
(a letter from his girlfriend, I guess =3 ).
The pattern is all sakura (cherry blossom) and the colors are very simple...
I tried to keep the pastel tones as in the Edo Spring girl,
only with more masculine tones...

He looks very discrete, next to the super-flashy Sengoku-kun...
Also, i love his haircut and wild-looking eyebrows... so cute! <3

So, after some tought, I decided to post some of my works 

without that ugly big watermark bothering the pic...

Edo Spring!

This girl from the Edo period (1603-1868) wears a sakura-themed spring furisode, paper umbrella and nihongami (traditional japanese hairstyle). Her overall looks is mostly inspired in Maiko (apprentice geisha), but there are most probably some innacuracies.

Progress of Oiran-san... 2

No, I'm not dead... Februrary was just terribly busy. 

My poor blog was neglected... gomen nasai!

I'm slowly working on my next kokeshi-style drawing... Oiran!

Drawing all those kanzashi almost killed me... 

yet, they were a quite fun challenge! ^^

No shades, yet, and I'm still working on the 

complementary colors... but here's a sneak peek of her!

I guess I'm happy about how she's turning out...
